Be As Different As You Were Born To Be

BO KRISTO BLOG BORN DIFFERENT

Why can’t you be more like him/her? Can you not do something like this instead or that? Why do you always insist on doing the exact opposite of what so and so is doing? Why are you so different? Why are you so difficult? You’re a freak! You look/behave weird! You don’t fit in!

Sounds familiar? Are those some of the phrases and sentences you’ve grown up listening to? Are these the words that constantly drum inside your head, so much so that you suppress and hide and smother your individuality?

Stop! You are amazing and spectacular exactly the way you are right now. You don’t need to change or hide or cower. You don’t need to alter or adjust or curb your personality just so people can tell you that you belong.

Don’t believe me? I didn’t expect you to. Everyone can sprout a bit of pep-talk load of bull but they never mean it, do they? Consider this. Are two brains exactly alike? Are two fingerprints the same? Even twins that are “genetically identical”; that look the same, are not exactly so. Then why should you be? Why should you fit into that norm?… That same little box as every Tom, Dick and Harry when you were clearly born to stand out?

Isn’t life all about being unique and true and different? People that succeed, that take over the world, the ones every single person talks about are all DIFFERENT. The very reason they’re so talked about, loved or hated is because they don’t fit into one neat pre-existing category. They create a category of their own.

This isn’t one of those how-to-find-your-true-calling kinds of write-ups that everyone reads and disregards. We’re not here to tell you how to be perfect because being you don’t necessarily mean being the epitome of perfection. Please. I know of not one single person that I would call ‘perfect’. Being yourself means recognizing your imperfections and embracing them. It means being confident in your own strengths and beliefs and being okay with failing, or not being accepted. Being you means standing your ground and not giving in just because that’s the way others are doing.

Societies all around the globe tie you down with customs, traditions and general consensuses that stifle you to the point where you’re suffocated, not being able to break free to let your spirit shine. Just like it is human nature to put others down for accomplishments that they envy, it is a basic human characteristic, and undeniably a fundamental one, to be different.

Remember this; you are not a robot, mass produced with the exact same functionality as a hundred billion others. You are a person, a human being. You have your own thoughts, opinions, likes and dislikes. Your environment influences you, diverse, singular, unusual or even the very mundane inspires you.

Exceed the ordinary; forget what set and accepted standards are. Be as different as you were born to be!
