Question Everything!!

As individuals, we involuntarily grow, learning and developing traits, habits and even talents based on our environment, information that came before us and circumstances surrounding our existence. So many key aspects of our reality were not up to us. We do not get to determine our names and gender.  We do not get to choose our families or relatives. Usually, for a good portion of our lives we do not get to determine where we will live or what that dwelling space will look like. The general reality described above may not necessarily be a bad deal. But what if?? In this article, we intend to encourage you to question everything as though you were 5 Years old. 

In a world overfed with fabrication, intended deceit, accidental error and oblivious intellectual mediocrity, we ought to ask the “daunting” questions, WHY?!.  It’s really the one tool we have to understand the circumstances around us.

Take 5 year old’s for instance, their natural curiosity allows them to learn about the world. They ask again and again, until they make sense of things or understand why something is the way it is. This repeats through every experience and social interaction. 

Then we grow up and “Why?” becomes nearly.. taboo.  Some of the problems we are facing today are because we do not press on to find the right answers we deserve. Say you come across an experience having to do with another individual that was rather unpleasant.  As adults we may complain, frown and be stressed. Or in that instance we may adopt the basic thought process of a 5 year old and ask why?!!  Answering the question allows us to make sense of things, understand the situation and formulate a worthy (preferably stress free) response.

Have you ever Heard of the story of the girl who saw her mom fry a fish? 

well, here it goes… 

A girl sees her mom fry fish, but before she did so, she cut the head and the tail, put them in the trash, then fry the fish. The girl asked her mom, the seemingly obvious question; WHY do you cut the fish before cooking it? The mother replied, “I don’t know, I learned from my mother!” The girl then went on ahead to ask her Grandma the same question; WHY do you cut the head and tail of the fish before cooking it? She too said, “I don’t know, I learned to cook the fish from my mother”. Can any one sense a pattern here?

The girl wasn’t about to back down, and thankfully, her great grandma was fighting fit, therefore, she asked her the same question, WHY? Her great grandma then explained that she cut the head and the tail of the fish, because 50 years ago, her frying pan was too small. – Can you just imagine that? A habit passed down through generations, that could have saved the grandmother and mothers some extra parts of fish had they been curious enough to ask the the easy and straightforward question, WHY?!
